Modeling mixing in two-dimensional turbulence and stratified fluids

چکیده
A phenomenological model for turbulent mixing in a stratified fluid is presented. This model describes the evolution of the local probability distribution for the fluid density. It is based on an analogy between the mixing of vorticity in 2D turbulent flows and the mixing of density in (3D) turbulent flows.

Numerical Predictions of Turbulent Mixed Convection Heat Transfer to Supercritical Fluids Using Various Low Reynolds Number k-e Turbulence Models
There are a number of systems in which supercritical cryogenic fluids are used as coolants or propellant fluids. In some modern military aircraft, the fuel is pressurized above its critical point and used as a coolant to remove heat from the aircraft engine. Accurate prediction of heat transfer coefficients to turbulent flows of supercritical fluids is essential in design of such systems. One o...
متن کاملThe Effect of Curvature on Turbulence in Stratified Fluids
The influence of streamline curvature on small-scale turbulence and vertical mixing in stratified fluids is the subject of this study. The roles of curvature and stratification in enhancing and suppressing turbulent mixing are explored using second-moment closure for turbulence. Governing equations for second moments are expressed in generalized orthogonal curvilinear coordinates, from which, t...

متن کاملRayleigh–Taylor turbulent mixing of immiscible, miscible and stratified fluids
We propose a simple empirical model to describe the Rayleigh–Taylor RT turbulent mixing of immiscible, miscible and stratified fluids. For immiscible fluids, the rate of momentum loss is an invariant of the flow, whereas the energy dissipation rate increases linearly with time. Turbulent diffusion, accounted for through temperature fluctuations, does not terminate mixing but slows it down signi...

The mixing of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in a magnetic micro-mixer was studied numerically using ferrofluid. The mixing process was performed in a three-dimensional steady-state micro-mixer. A magnetic source was mounted at the entrance of the micro-channel to oscillate the magnetic particles. The effects of electric current, inlet velocity, size of magnetic particles, and non-Newtonia...
